A sign with the large text 'HANDS OFF' at the top, a horizontal blue stripe with four red stars below it, and the word 'CHICAGO' at the bottom.

chicago does not need or want troops or ice

Hands Off Chicago is a grassroots effort to oppose military intervention in Chicago.

We must show the nation and the world that Chicago is united in opposing these illegal and unnecessary attacks.

how to prepare

RESOURCES FOR ICE ACTIONS & IMMIGRATION ISSUES

  • Save the ICIRR hotline to report suspected ICE sightings into your phone: 855-435-7693. Speed is important in these moments to help protect people, and this way you won't have to go googling for it in real time.

  • If you know anyone who needs immigration legal or community support, they can complete this form or call the hotline: 855-435-7693

  • Sign up for Eyes On ICE text alerts, which will notify subscribers by zip code in the event of confirmed ICE presence in your neighborhood.

  • Click here to request a Know Your Rights training for your organization or workplace, and click here to learn more about one’s rights in ICE encounters.

  • Donate to or organize a fundraiser for the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights to support their work protecting our neighbors and keeping families together.

  • Are you a lawyer? Sign up to provide legal support to immigrant communities.

Sign providing contact information for ICE detention assistance, with phone number 855-435-7693 and a link to icirr.org/fsn for rights information, and logo of Illinois Coalition for Immigrant & Refugee Rights.

RESOURCES FOR PROTESTS & ENCOUNTERS WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT

  • Save the number for the First Defense Legal Aid (1-800-LAW-REP4 / 800-529-7374): Trauma-informed hotline to find civil rights counsel for police misconduct, report federal law enforcement activity, connect to stationhouse defense, and referrals to community and legal needs. English/Spanish, 24/7/365. Keep this number in your phone in case you or someone you know are detained at a protest and need legal support.

take action

  • Change your profile pic and post the Hands Off Chicago social image on X/Bluesky, Facebook, or Instagram.

Take a photo of your Hands Off Chicago window sign and post it online. Be sure to use the hashtag #HandsOffChicago!

  • Chicagoans can show their Chicago solidarity by posting the Hands Off Chicago sign in their window. Click here for the sign as an 8.5×11 downloadable pdf in English or Spanish.

Or, print and color your own Hands Off Chicago window sign.

Professionally printed window signs are being distributed at locations around the city. For individuals or organizations looking to place their own large sign orders, please use a union printer.

  • Silence is compliance, so we need to get LOUD. Every night the military is in Chicago, residents are encouraged to go outside at 7:00PM and bang pots and pans, sing, chant, or make noise for five minutes.

When neighbors ask what’s going on, talk with them about what’s happening

Post your noisemaking to social media using the hashtag #HandsOffChicago
